The trooper smelled marijuana and, after a search of the vehicle, determined that a passenger, Michael P. Martin, 21, was in possession of marijuana and heroin, the sheriff said.
Martin was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; and with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, police said.
